Placements

The Department of Political Science doctoral program maintains a high percentage of alumni job placements.

Since 2000, many of our Ph.D. program graduates have been appointed to tenure-track positions in prestigious academic institutions. Here are stories about of some recent graduates, along with a comprehensive list of placements.

Jaime Jackson

Jaime Jackson (PhD 2019) will be starting as an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) this Fall 2020 at California State University Sacramento in the Department of Political Science. In addition to her teaching and research at CSUS, Jaime will also be the new director of the Political Science Internship Program. Among her achievements as a graduate student was receiving the Dean's Doctoral Fellowship for Excellence in Research. Her research and teaching interests broadly include civil conflict, strategic nonviolence, foreign policy, and research methods. More specifically, her research focuses on the dynamics of external support in violent and nonviolent resistance campaigns. While at CSUS, she will continue work on a unique group-level dataset focused on external support for nonviolent resistance, as well as a book project on NGOs in resistance campaigns. Her work has recently been featured in the Journal of Peace Research.

Daniel Simmons

Daniel J. Simmons (Ph.D., 2020) is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Saint Michael's College. His primary research, previously published in the Journal of Politics, uses experiments to examine how controversial policing affects the public's opinion of the police and local government, as well as the public's attitudes towards policing policy. He also uses experiments to examine varied aspects of political behavior including how religion affects foreign intervention policy preferences, how local election results can affect a political party's national prospects, and how shocks can affect network formation and behavior. The latter research was conducted as part of the Social and Political Interacting Networks interdisciplinary research team at UC Davis under the direction of Distinguished Professor Zeev Maoz. Daniel teaches courses on American government, state and local politics, constitutional law, and criminal justice.
