Minor Programs

There are two undergraduate minor programs available through the Department of Political Science: a minor in Political Science, and a minor in War-Peace Studies.

Note for Political Science, Political Science - Public Service, and International Relations majors: Per College of Letters & Science policy, you cannot have a major and a minor within the same department; as your major is in the Department of Political Science, you are not eligible to minor in Political Science OR in War-Peace Studies. If you are looking for a minor to pursue, check out the list of all minors offered by UC Davis here
Minor in Political Science

The minor in Political Science, encompassing a total of 24 units, consists of six upper-division courses from any of four fields of concentrations.

  • American Politics
  • Comparative Politics
  • International Relations
  • Political Theory

Students in the minor also may choose from among a few miscellaneous courses. See the full POL minor requirements and applicable courses on our POL minor requirements checklist.

Minor in War-Peace Studies

The International Relations program does not include a minor track. We do sponsor a War-Peace Studies minor that is very similar to IR Track 2. The interdisciplinary minor in War-Peace Studies examines the causes and dynamics of intra- and international wars and efforts to prevent and settle such conflicts. Students in the minor are encouraged to participate in the educational activities of the Davis Program of the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC). See the full minor requirements and applicable courses on our minor requirements checklist.
